A New Year Reflection on Beauty and Courage

Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on the past couple of years and wanted to share some thoughts and gratitude.

Over the past two years, I’ve received more requests for private photo sessions from women. In fact, more than 70% of my clients choose to keep their beautiful photographs private. Whether it’s a business portrait or an artistic one, I deeply respect the decision of those who choose to keep their portraits private—it’s a personal and meaningful choice, and I am honored to create something special for each individual, no matter how they choose to cherish their images.

That said, I do miss the time when I was running the 40 Over 40 Project. Back then, women were fearless and would tell me, “Amanda, you can post my photos however you want.” That fearless “let-them-talk” attitude inspired not only me but everyone who saw their portraits. It reminded us all of the power of courage, individuality, and self-love.

Malta is a small island, and it’s easy for people to feel scrutinized by their community. But what if, instead of pointing fingers and passing judgment, we cultivated a culture of acceptance? Celebrating each other’s differences and choices is far more enriching than clinging to outdated mindsets.

I truly believe that by showcasing women’s portraits, we can create a new norm—one where sharing our beauty is seen as an act of confidence and self-expression, encouraging others to embrace their own.

I’ll never forget the 40 Over 40 Exhibition, where a few guests commented critically on the attire in some portraits on display. One said, “It’s too much, don’t you think?” I felt the need to stand up for the art and the women in those portraits. I replied, “Absolutely not. I think the portrait is creative and artistic. I love it.” Just because someone wouldn’t allow themselves to do something doesn’t mean others shouldn’t.

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful clients, fans, and friends. Your support, positive comments, and encouragement mean the world to me.

I wish you all a prosperous and healthy year ahead. Let’s make 2025 a year of confidence, creativity, and embracing the beauty in ourselves and others.

Here’s to a year of confidence, beauty, and empowerment.
